Valerie Allass (nee Creaser) was born in Thorne and has lived there all her life. Her mother was Dora Creaser who lived for most of her life at Wilkinson Avenue. Her father Ted worked at Thorne Colliery from when it first opened.
Valerie married Gerald Allass from Edlington who was a mining engineer and later a college lecturer. They had a daughter Marcia.
She worked for 21 years at the York County Savings Bank in Thorne and afterwards as school secretary at South Common First School.
Photograph from Geoff Webster of the windmill at the corner of Brook Street and North Eastern Road on the site of which his parents(owners of the drapers shop in Finkle Street now Savers) built their bungalow. The windmill is said to have been built in 1629 and was demolished in 1913.
