Royal Visit to Thorne
HRH The Duke of Kent K. G. attended the re-dedication of the refurbished War Memorial in Thorne Park by The Bishop of Doncaster. In addition a Trade Exhibition was organised to showcase local commercial and community interests with an emphasis on the future prosperity of the area.
The Mayor of Thorne greeted The Duke of Kent, The Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and other guests at the entrance to the Park and then proceeded to the bandstand where invited persons were presented.
There was a parade down Church Street, round the Market Place, along Silver Street and down South Parade to the Park and then proceeded along a marked route in front of the bandstand where The Duke of Kent took the salute.
